On Christmas Eve there is the traditional “missa do galo” where most families go to church and many of them spend the rest of the night visiting each other’s houses to celebrate.

New Year’s Eve in Madeira brings with it an incredible and breathtaking firework show, which made part of Guinness Books of World Records in 2007.
