There are many reasons to visit Madeira Island, whether is it for leisure, relax or to enjoy what the Island has to offer. One of the main attractions is the vast vegetation that makes up its flora.
The “Floresta Laurissilva” is the name by which the forest of Madeira Island is known. With subtropical and humid characteristics, occupying an area of 15,000 hectares it was considered in 1999 by UNESCO as its world heritage. Inside this forest you can find unique plant and animal species in the world.
In addition to this forest, you can enjoy incredible places on the Island where nature is strongly present. The walking paths are spread throughout the Island in which unique moments are experienced, where you can breathe the purest air and where, while walking, you can enjoy a breathtaking landscape and listen to the background sound of the birds and the water running through its channels.
On the north coast of the Island you will find most of the Laurissilva forest where we highlight the Ribeiro Frio forest park and Praia do Seixal as a must places to visit. On the south coast you can take the opportunity to hike the famous “levadas” located in Rabaçal or to watch the sunrise at Pico do Areeiro, which is considered the 5th highest point in Portugal.
